Roy snorted as the saddle fell and he shied away from it a few steps. She heard her grandfather laughing from behind her. “I thought that Clydesdales were supposed to be calmer and Quarter Horses more flighty,” Ruth complained.

“Mirage is over 22 years-old and trained to compete. Ol’ Roy just turned 4 this year.”

“Then why do you keep calling him ol’ Roy?”

“Because he will be old, some day, and young Roy sounds derogatory. I wouldn’t be derogatory toward a creature that large but if you want to, you have at it.” Ruth wondered how she’d never before realized her grandfather was a tad loopy.

WITHIN: Never Alone

"There was me and then the truth inside

I knew that it didn't pay to try and hide

For He was there and He always knew

And I tried but none of us can stay true

He would hold me close as I'd cry

When I felt as if I'd die

And I'll never bear the pain alone

For I know I am His own

Though the darkness at times surrounds me

For perfect is something I can't be

And the pain will often be there

Sometimes more than I can bear"

Brief excerpt from novel I'm writing during NaNoWriMo:

"All she wanted was to be touched and held and ravished. She thought about sex so often that it was sometimes hard to concentrate on anything else. She felt like such a failure in a family so focused on God. She felt that she was letting them all down by being so enthralled in sex even though none of them knew a thing about it. It was just that she didn’t know how to break the cycle.

She wanted to be touched. She wanted to have sex. She wanted it all of the time."

"Through the darkest night

"Where are we headed?

What route are we taking?

God is taken out of the school

Christianity is mocked and scorned

As His tears fall in large pools
